This charming town is a cultural crossroads, where traditional Maasai life meets vibrant urban energy. Nestled beneath the towering Mount Meru, Arusha offers a perfect climate and scenic backdrop to begin your journey.
Arusha is often called the “Geneva of Africa” because it hosts many international organizations and peace talks. It’s also the jumping-off point for five spectacular parks nearby!
Take the day to relax and enjoy your lodge’s lush coffee plantation gardens or stroll through local markets filled with colorful crafts and spices. This gentle introduction sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

Drive from Arusha to Chem Chem Lodge, nestled in the little-known Burunge Wildlife Management Area, a hidden gem adjacent to Tarangire National Park. This area is a haven for wildlife and a stronghold for conservation efforts, with sweeping palm-fringed plains and acacia woodlands.
Burunge is home to some of Tanzania’s last remaining wild elephants, and here you might spot large herds of zebra, giraffe, and various antelope species in a more intimate, less crowded setting than other parks.

Spend the day immersed in the Maasai culture and the spectacular wildlife of the region. Join a Maasai warrior for a guided walk or run through the wild plains an experience that offers insight into the age-old traditions of this iconic tribe. Visit a local village to connect with the community and learn about their daily life and crafts.
The Maasai are known for their distinctive red shukas (cloth) and intricate beadwork, which carry symbolic meanings related to age, status, and events. They are also among the most skilled traditional warriors in Africa.
Your game drives reveal the rich biodiversity of the area  keep an eye out for elusive predators like leopard, as well as birds like the colorful lilac-breasted roller.

Today is for slow exploration. Enjoy a tranquil nature walk with your guide, spotting rare bird species, butterflies, and native plants. Alternatively, pamper yourself with a spa treatment or relax by the pool while soaking in the peaceful surroundings.
The Burunge area is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 400 species recorded  from tiny sunbirds to majestic fish eagles.
You’ll also have the rewarding opportunity to visit a local primary school, where you can see firsthand the impact of sustainable tourism and conservation on the community.

After an early breakfast, transfer to Manyara Airport for your flight to Northern Serengeti’s Kogatende Airstrip, the heart of the Great Migration. Nyasi Migration Camp is your base for exploring one of the world’s most extraordinary natural events  the annual wildebeest migration.
Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, undertake a 1,000-kilometer circular journey in search of fresh grazing a spectacle known as the “Great Migration.” It’s one of the last truly wild events on Earth.
Nyasi Migration Camp moves with the migration, offering front-row views of dramatic river crossings, predator-prey chases, and newborn calves in the wild.

Wake early for a full day game drive with your private guide and vehicle. The Serengeti’s endless plains are home to the “Big Five”  lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino  plus cheetahs, hyenas, and hundreds of bird species.
The Serengeti is named after the Maasai word “Siringet,” meaning “endless plains.” It’s one of the oldest ecosystems on the planet, over 2 million years old.

Continue your adventure across the Serengeti, stopping for a bush picnic beneath the iconic flat-topped Acacia trees. Experience the savannah’s rhythms from herds of grazing wildebeest to a solitary lion surveying its territory.
Acacia trees are called “umbrella trees” because of their distinctive flat canopies, providing essential shade for animals during the hot days.
Keep your camera ready  you might witness rare moments like a cheetah mother teaching her cubs to hunt or a troop of baboons playing.

Spend your last full day soaking in the Serengeti’s vast beauty. Take a leisurely game drive in the afternoon before settling down for sundowners  a classic safari tradition of enjoying drinks while watching the sun set over the endless savannah.
The Serengeti’s sunsets paint the sky in spectacular hues of orange, pink, and purple, offering some of the most breathtaking views in Africa.
Reflect on your journey with your guide, sharing stories and spotting any last wildlife sightings before returning to camp for a celebratory dinner.

After breakfast, bid farewell to the Serengeti and enjoy game viewing in route to Kogatende Airstrip. Fly back to Arusha for a hot lunch (own expense) and then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight or optional Zanzibar extension.
